5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!, 10 Jun 2012

What a fantastic book! It really did ‘what it said on the tin’. I intended to casually read this book but once I’d started I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN. It was a compelling read and I really got into the characters. This is a must have. It had the right mix of 1800’s story and modern day story. For sure, I would recommend it to anyone. I’m gonna look out and see if there are any more books by Stephen F. Clegg in the future as I really enjoyed his style of writing.

Just finished reading Maria’s papers what a great read I couldn’t put it down I looking forward to the next one. I liked that you went back and forth from old to new, and that the characters seemed to come alive and you were there with them.

Not usually a book person if I’m honest but thoroughly enjoyed this. Story line kept me hooked and the change from past to present as the chapters went along kept me keen to read on. Well worth a read.

Highly readable, hugely enjoyable, a must read book. Hard to put down when reading, great characters, like the way it kept flipping from the old time to present time. Few will be able to resist Marias Papers, they will love it. Looking forward to the next book.

I’m not a big reader, but found this very easy to read. A nice flow to the plot and always a new turn to keep you flipping the pages. Made all the more interesting to know it is based around a true story.

Sometimes it’s worth picking up a book from an unknown author. I like my stories to keep me turning pages and this one did just that. Action, history, mystery and a touch of romance…The beautifully created English characters from past and present are embroiled in action and intrigue from start to finish. I would especially recommend this book to any anglophiles out there; the evolution from Victorian to contemporary Englishness portrayed through the chronologically split plot is fascinating. It appears to be well researched. I am ready for the sequel.
